Into the Unknown: Alumni Rayyan Mir on Lifelong Entrepreneurship with LaunchX

Entrepreneurship is never a straight path. It’s a journey of exploration, challenges, and growth. For young minds eager to make their mark, the uncertainty and unpredictability of starting something new can often feel overwhelming. But what if the unknown wasn’t something to fear, but an opportunity to learn, evolve, and discover your true potential? This is one of the core lessons at the heart of the LaunchX program—where young entrepreneurs are not only encouraged to take risks but to be comfortable with uncertainty as they grow and learn.

From Curiosity to Community, Finding His Entrepreneurial Home

Rayyan Mir, an alum of LaunchX’s 2022 cohort, embodies this mindset. Since participating in the program, Rayyan has stayed within the LaunchX ecosystem, working as both an interviewer and an intern.

Rayyan’s entrepreneurial story began like many others—filled with curiosity and a desire to create. But what truly set his experience apart was the support system he found in LaunchX. "LaunchX has been my family for the past three years," he reflects. This sense of community, coupled with a focus on personal development and entrepreneurship, gave Rayyan the freedom to explore without pressure, an essential ingredient for growth. For him, LaunchX wasn’t just about learning how to build a startup—it was about discovering who he is, what he loves, and how he can make a difference.

The formative years of entering the professional workforce are a time for exploration, experimentation, and self-discovery. Rayyan’s experience highlights the power of community in navigating the unknown when deciding to join the LaunchX team as an intern. "I figured out what I love because I had no expectations [of the internship]," he explains. "I then realized I love working with people and community development." This openness to discovery gave Rayyan the space to learn more about himself and what he truly values—lessons that go beyond traditional business education.

The Power of Growth, Resilience, and Embracing the Unknown

The LaunchX program is designed to provide young entrepreneurs with a platform to explore ideas and develop real-world skills. However, it’s not just about building businesses—it’s about building resilience. When Rayyan was running his restaurant, The Lazy Oven, he faced challenges that pushed him to adapt, learn, and rethink his approach. Leaving behind the business to pursue his studies in economics at the University of Toronto was another step into the unknown, one that brought its own set of uncertainties. But through it all, Rayyan learned that the process of learning—of being okay with not having all the answers—is what truly propels an entrepreneur forward.

Whether it’s testing new ideas, facing setbacks, or embracing a completely new path, LaunchX doesn’t expect perfection—it nurtures a culture of growth where failure is seen as an opportunity to learn rather than an obstacle to success. When reflecting on his time working with the company, Rayyan notes how “we teach kids how to build while reflecting on what we need to do to improve.”  Embedded in LaunchX is the culture to constantly experiment, reflect, and refine our approaches.

Be Okay With Not Knowing

Ultimately, LaunchX isn’t just a program—it’s a lifelong ecosystem that fosters growth, encourages curiosity, and empowers young people to take on the world with confidence. Whether it's experimenting with new ideas or discovering what brings you joy—like Rayyan’s newfound love for French vanilla—LaunchX offers the space and encouragement for young entrepreneurs to explore, grow, and succeed in their own unique ways. "Be okay with not knowing," Rayyan shares, reflecting on his journey. "That’s difficult when you’re a highly ambitious person, but you need to learn to be okay with not knowing. You’ll figure it out tomorrow."
