Meet our mentors, who help students develop their skills quickly. Jeddy Yuan served during the 2023 summer.

Jeddy has always known entrepreneurship.

Jeddy is an entrepreneur at his core. Influenced by his mother, who showed him the value of entrepreneurship from a very young age, Jeddy owes much of his experience to the entrepreneurial spirit instilled into him by his mother.

In high school, Jeddy had the incredible opportunity to participate in Junior Achievement, blowing open his more reserved personality and encouraging him to be bold in new ways. During this time, he also got sales awards, further solidifying the go-getter attitude that he now approaches the world.

These foundational experiences were a catalyst for presenting new opportunities to Jeddy that allowed him to succeed. But Jeddy doesn’t take this for granted – he sees the opportunities he has been afforded as a chance to pay it forward. When asked why he spent time helping a team of high school entrepreneurs, Jeddy stated, “I want to be the person that I wish I had when I was their age.” 

His core belief is that there is no such thing as the self-made man. We all stand on the shoulders of those who come before us to grow and develop into better humans – whether it’s a mother or a mentor during a program.

Jeddy’s LaunchX experience as a mentor

When asked why LaunchX, Jeddy was quick to point out that the students he works with a deep passion to grow. Their desire is inspiring and makes it possible to help them further develop their skills quickly. His goal during the program is to help students take significant risks and learn how to fail – because that is how you learn. 

During the 2023 Online Entrepreneurship Program, the team he was mentoring started timidly. At about the ½ way mark in the program, they started falling behind on the schedule, seemingly paralyzed by decisions they needed to make. Jeddy patiently stuck with them, knowing that overcoming that fear was key to developing and growing. And then it happened – breakthrough.

His team suddenly began making progress and was able to launch their business by the 5-week mark. Those breakthrough moments are one of Jeddy's primary motivators. He loves seeing entrepreneurs move past the theory into action – he loves to see those breakthrough moments.

Other benefits as a volunteer at LaunchX

For Jeddy, he experiences secondary benefits from volunteering as a mentor. As a seasoned entrepreneur, he is interested in growing as well. When working with a team of high schoolers, he gets to apply and process the lessons he has experienced throughout the years. He understands that he can’t keep Launchies from making their own mistakes – that’s part of the process. Instead, he gets to practice influencing without authority, a crucial skill for any entrepreneur. 

Further, he sees an incredible opportunity to live out his values. New entrepreneurs can’t develop in a vacuum. They require others to ask hard questions, challenging pre-existing assumptions and biases, and push these budding entrepreneurs to execute their ideas. This is a rewarding and stretching experience for Jeddy, as much as it is for the students.

What Jeddy is doing today

Today, Jeddy continues to live out his entrepreneurial spirit. He has a passion for sleep and is excited about the work already done in the sleep sector. He looks forward to further disruption by startups, informed by neuroscience, to develop new ways to track and encourage a good night’s rest.
