Why LaunchX?

For many of you, this may be a time filled with anxiety, checking your email every day to see whether or not you were accepted into LaunchX. For others, you may have already received your acceptance, in which case, congratulations! For many of you, you may have gotten into multiple summer programs and now are making the tough decision of which one to accept. Well I can safely say, I’ve been there and done that! I know that at the time it may seem like a difficult crossroads to be at, but let me help you through it!Similar to few of the other LaunchX attendees, I had only learned about LaunchX a couple of days before the application deadline. Being a savvy high school student, I applied to couple of summer programs, to cover all my bases. Most of the other acceptances came earlier, but I was still waiting with baited breath to receive my acceptance letter to Launch.While playing the waiting game I had made up my mind, LaunchX or bust. I knew that despite the amazing opportunities presented by my other options, LaunchX was my number one choice. Just reading about the amazing entrepreneurial work that I could do at LaunchX, cemented my decision. As cliché as it sounds, there was no way that I could turn down a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.When I received my acceptance letter, it was the most satisfying feeling. Even though I had made up my mind, I still had to jump through the hoops with my parents. Like you, they wanted to know “Why LaunchX?”. So I created a handy dandy pros and cons chart comparing my other summer program opportunities to LaunchX. Even with this more scientific approach LaunchX was definitely the more superior choice for me.If you already applied for LaunchX and put in the effort of crafting your application, you’ll have already discovered that there is part of you that is keen to explore your entrepreneurial spirit at Launch. This entrepreneurial spirt was really the driving force behind why I knew LaunchX was the right fit for me. The pros and cons table just added more reasons for me to attend Launch.In hind sight, I am very glad I listened to my intuition because this past summer was phenomenal. From the moment I entered the LaunchX dorm, the atmosphere was just surreal. I got to spend my summer working with incredible fellow LaunchX attendees, hearing from awesome guest speakers, and exploring my entrepreneurial spirit in an unparalleled environment. I wouldn’t trade my LaunchX experience for anything, and I can hands down say that my fellow LaunchX attendees and now lifelong friends feel the same way.Keeping in mind the exceptional caliber of students who attend LaunchX every year, I’m confident that many of them were at similar crossroads and are all very glad to have chosen MIT Launch. It’s hard to put into words how special the LaunchX experience truly is, but I’m sure that no matter who you are you will come out of LaunchX with a novel passion for entrepreneurship and a go-getter attitude.Sometimes all it takes is talking with others, whether it’s your family, friends, or even your teachers, to decide what choice is the best for you. Nonetheless, it’s your decision at the end of the day, and you probably already know what’s best for you. I just want to end off with one sentence I wish I could’ve told myself when I was making my decision to attend LaunchX last year: Decisions may be hard to make, but this decision definitely does not have to be!
